Unique Designs For A Bedroom

Your bedroom doesn't have to be drab and boring.

An ideal bedroom is a soothing, attractive space that provides a comfortable place to sleep. However, comfort doesn't mean that you are stuck with a bland, boring design for your room. Creating a unique look for your bedroom can be as simple as arranging the furniture in an unexpected way, but using the space to express your personality and interests is a surefire way to design a truly one-of-a-kind space in which you are happy to spend time.

Sunken Bed

While you have likely seen a lofted or platform bed, a sunken bed can create a unique look for your room. Instead of a bed frame, the mattress and box spring rest in a cutout in the floor. As a result, your bed is flush with the floor and no bed frame is visible. It is an unusual look that creates a minimalist feel for your bedroom. However, making the bed can be difficult with this type of setup so you may want to leave several inches of the mattress above the floor to make changing the sheets easier.

Book Lover's Retreat

If you are an avid reader, draw upon your love of literature to inspire the design for your bedroom. Instead of a headboard, line the wall behind your bed with bookshelves so you can surround your bed with all of your favorite books. They not only add color and texture to the walls, but also give the room a truly personalized twist. Create an alcove in the center that is at least the width of your bed, so you can place it against the wall without blocking access to any of the books. If your bedroom is large enough, consider installing shelves on all of the walls to cover the entire room with books.

Natured Inspired

For a charming, rustic look, bring the outdoors into your bedroom. Instead of a plain wood bed frame, opt for a frame made of logs. It provides a rugged, natural look that is ideal if you enjoy nature or log cabin decor. To soften the effect, you can whitewash the frame to give it a charming country look. Include other natural elements in the room such as potted plants and dried flowers to create the effect of an indoor arbor, and consider installing a large skylight over the bed to simulate the effect of sleeping under the open sky.

Unusual Wall Treatments

If you have limited funds, focusing on a single feature of the room and giving it a unique look can transform the entire space. Using an unusual finish or material to cover your walls is one of the most effective ways to create a distinctive look for the entire space. Instead of simply painting or wallpapering the walls, consider covering them in a striking material such as a dark-colored suede or leather. This is an ideal look for masculine bedroom. To create a truly eye-catching look, cover one or two walls with gold or silver leaf for a glamorous, metallic effect.
