Beachy Bedroom Ideas

Bring the beach and ocean atmosphere into your bedroom with decorations.

Many people's idea of paradise is sitting on a beach with a warm breeze in their hair, gazing out over the ocean. If this sounds like your idea of relaxation, you can bring this type of atmosphere into your bedroom, no matter where you live. There are many ways to attain the peaceful beach state of mind, through colors, accessories, and fabric and furniture choices.

Colors

Choose colors that bring your mind and spirit to the beach. For example, you may want to paint your walls a pale shade of blue that reminds you of the sky and the clear ocean water. According to Frugal Home D cor, you should use bedding colors that evoke a sense of calm and peace, such as white or neutral beige. If your idea of beach heaven is the brightly colored Florida Keys, then consider using pinks, peaches, greens and yellows for your bedding or walls.

Accessories

Incorporate beach and sea accessories to bring a sense of calm to your bedroom. Place seashells -- either large pink conch shells or small groups of classic white scallop shells -- on your bedside table. Hang starfish or framed sand dollars on your walls. Don't forget to add at least one beach landscape painting or print on your wall where you can see it when you wake up in the morning. Some people fill hurricane globes with sand, coral pieces and shells and then place white or blue candles at the top of it. You can also decorate with scented candles, such as those in ocean or coconut scents, to use all your senses in your room. Choose a shell chandelier nightstand lamp, or a lighthouse-shaped lamp if your idea of beach paradise is the New England coast. According to Kids' Theme Bedrooms, you can create a rustic beach feel by hanging a fishing net with tiny white lights and shells over your headboard.

Fabrics and Furniture

Most beach environments are warm and breezy, so you'll want to bring this ambiance to your room with your fabrics and furniture choices. Use linen or gauzy white curtains that will blow easily with the breeze from an open window. For your actual furniture material, you can choose from a pale, natural wood color or a warm bamboo set. Some people even use rattan or wicker furniture to bring in a feel of the tropics. To attain the feel of the New England beaches, use white wooden furniture with blue-and-white-striped bedding patterns.
