Moroccan Teen Bedroom Ideas

Use an antique Moroccan lamp in your teen's room to play off a genie's lamp Moroccan theme.

Turn your teen's bedroom into a Moroccan retreat with jewel-toned colors and luxurious fabrics. The room should mimic the rich Moroccan culture, which includes elements from India, Africa and Spain. Your teen's bedroom could essentially mimic the harem of any genie with plush pillows and intricately carved furniture mixed in with earth, spice and jewel tones.

Walls

Paint the walls in deep spice or earth tones, such as cinnamon, crimson, burnt orange or terra cotta. Choose turquoise, purple, pink or green if you'd rather paint the walls with a bright color. Moroccan decor commonly boasts a contrasting color scheme of bright jewel tones and earth tones that work together in geometric patterns. Make things interesting by hanging beaded curtains on the wall behind the bed or in doorways. Treat one wall as an accent wall by gluing faux gemstones, such as rubies, emeralds and sapphires directly onto the wall in a pattern.

Furniture

Ornate, carved furniture is common for a Moroccan theme. Low-profile furniture, such as a corner seat with plush pillows on top and open shelves on bottom for storage, fit in with the theme. Paint older wood furniture in bright, bold colors that contrast with the walls. Use neutral tones or wrought iron furniture against bright walls for contrast. The furniture you put in your teen's bedroom should create a luxurious, relaxing feel. Include any double-duty pieces that you can, such as a low-profile bed that has storage shelves or drawers underneath.

Windows

Hang thin, flowing gauzy or sheer material over the windows. Use simple rolling shades or roman shades for privacy and light control, if necessary. Put in a stained glass window with jeweled geometric patterns or an image of the Sahara desert if you don't want to use shades under the sheer curtains. Beaded curtains with gemstones that match the color scheme in the room are another option, although not appropriate for privacy control.

Accents

Use a silk duvet or comforter over high-quality sheets to get the posh feel that typically accompanies Moroccan decor. Add a pile of plush silk pillows in bright jewel tones, patterns and fringe edges. Top the bed off with a canopy of iridescent chiffon or mosquito netting in a bright color that complements the room.

Use colorful boxes or containers or woven baskets to store and organize your teen's belongings. Place antique lamps, vases or jewel-toned candles on floating shelves, the nightstand or chest. Pile floor pillows on a bench, chest or in a corner so your teen can pull them out for extra seating when her friends visit.
