Repair your own dining room table.

A dining room table adds elegance and style to your home decor. Unfortunately, because of being located in a high traffic area of the home along with heavy use, nicks and scratches as well as loose, broken and shortened legs occur often. Hiring a professional to repair your dining room table can be costly. Solve this problem by repairing the table yourself with a few simple tools and inexpensive supplies.

Instructions

Small Nicks and Scratches

1. Apply the liquid restore to the damaged areas with a piece of cloth.

2. Rub the liquid restore in gently with the steel wool using a soft circular motion.

3. Buff the area dry with a soft lint-free rag.

Deep Scratches and Dents

4. Press and rub the wax filler stick into the dent until it is completely filled in.

5. Buff the area smooth removing excess wax that may have strayed outside the repaired area.

6. Polish the entire table using the furniture polish and a lint-free rag.

Broken Legs

7. Turn the table upside down. Remove the broken leg from the table using the screwdriver. Set the two broken pieces along with any chipped pieces aside.

8. Apply a small amount of wood glue to the inside of the break on both pieces. Line the broken pieces up with each other so the leg appears whole. Attach the two broken pieces to each other. Put a clamp on either side of the break. Allow the leg to dry.

9. Apply a small amount of wood glue to one of the chipped pieces. Line the chipped piece up with the leg where it broke away so the leg appears whole. Hold the chipped piece against the leg until it sticks. Repeat this step for additional chipped pieces. Allow the leg to dry.

Loose and Uneven Legs

10. Tighten the screws of the loose leg using your screwdriver. Apply a small amount of wood glue between the table top and the loose leg if tightening the screws does not tighten the leg. Allow it to dry.

11. Lean the table so the shortened leg is evident. Measure the space between the bottom of the short leg and the floor. Turn the table upside down.

12. Cut the wood block to the length of the gap between the bottom of the shortened leg and the floor using your hand saw. Apply the wood glue to the wood block. Hold the block of wood against the bottom of the shortened leg until it sticks. Allow it to dry.
