Make Your Own Bedroom Games For Boys

Jungle wallpaper will create an illusion.

Make your son's bedroom into a magical place. With a little imagination, he can be king of the castle or station master or George of the jungle. With some simple decorating ideas his bedroom can become a fantastic play center where he will enjoy spending time with his friends or siblings. Choose a theme that he loves and let your imagination run wild; after all, he is a child only for a short while, so indulge in a fantasy world.

Instructions

1. Paint or wallpaper the bedroom to create a theme that your son will love. Boys tend to enjoy active play and will enjoy having a setting for their games. Create a jungle or woodland scene for hours of fun play for boys who love to pretend they are warriors or hunters. Choose one wall to paper, and paint the others in shades of green to create a cozy feel.

2. Match the paper or paint in the room with interesting curtains or blinds. Stencil parrots and monkeys onto a plain background for a jungle theme. Use the same material for bed quilts and pillow cases. Link games to the setting by creating exploration challenges or jungle hide-and-seek games with a small toy hidden in the room. Challenge your son's imagination and let him play in an imaginary world.

3. Create a camp to sleep in. Build a cover over the head of the bed. Aim for either a tent or wigwam effect, depending on the size of your room. Build the support with light cane wood. Fix the canes to the bedposts with thin twine wrapped at each corner. Bring the canes together at the top of the wigwam structure and tie them together. Cover in net fabric, which you can dye green or brown as camouflage, to create a tent that you can still see into to check on your child and that won't get too hot at night.

4. Create a story or games circle with a rug and cushions for the boys to sit down and play together. Fill storage boxes with animals that will capture their imagination. Think up starter stories, with the first part of a story only, for them to elaborate on and add the outline of the plot to the box. Include dressing-up hats and accessories for imaginative play.

5. Take yourself into the boys' world and make believe that they are in charge as they fight off crocodiles and tigers to protect you from danger. Play games that involve keeping very still or hiding from danger as well as educational games such as naming an animal for every letter of the alphabet.
