Can A Person Use Clorox Bleach To Whiten Teeth

Teeth whitening has become a popular trend for people wanting a younger-looking smile with whiter teeth. Although at-home whitening kits, whitening toothpastes, natural home remedies and in-office whitening procedures are options, Clorox should never be considered an option because of its toxic side effects.

Clorox Dangerous if Ingested

Clorox contains toxic chemicals, such as sodium hypochlorite, and even small amounts can cause nausea, vomiting and stomach irritation if ingested. Larger amounts can cause poisoning, resulting in heart complications, delirium, coma, shock and death.

What Dentists Recommend

The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends that you discuss teeth-whitening options with your dentist. Your dentist will tell you which whitening procedure would be best for your teeth. For example, while whitening procedures may be effective for yellowish teeth, they may not be as effective for grayish or brownish teeth.

Alternatives to Whitening

If the whitening procedure is not an option, porcelain veneers and dental bonding are available through your dentist.
