End Of Summer Kid'S Party Ideas

Water balloons are a good way to make a summer party more exciting

Once August arrives and a new school year is approaching, kids have to prepare to say goodbye to summer. Before the back-to-school clothes and supply shopping, though, a summer-ending party is a great way to give kids one last celebration. End-of-summer parties can be at backyard swimming pools or at homes without a pool. A pool party is always a cool and fun way to entertain kids during the summer, but other wet activities can also keep kids happy.

Paintball Wars With Water

A summer-ending party would not be the same without water. Whether you have a backyard swimming pool or not, a fun end-of-summer party activity is to let your party guests get wet and colorful. Be sure to have all of the party guests bring or wear a swimsuit.

In two containers (two quarts or larger), mix water and food coloring. Buy some inexpensive white T-shirts for each team and have them put the shirts on with their swimsuits. One team will be one color and the other team will be another. Inexpensive squirt guns can be found at dollar stores and they need to be filled with the colored water. After setting a predetermined time limit (5 to 10 minutes is probably long enough), each team gets on separate sides of the yard.

Once someone yells Go, the teams try to soak the shirts of their competition with the colored water. After the time limit is up, the team that has the whitest shirts is the winner. Prizes can be given to the winning team, although even the losers in this water war will have fun.

Water Balloon Toss

Fill some balloons with water (at least 50 balloons) and have them in a container outside. Be sure to have the party guests bring their swimsuits. After dividing the guests into two teams, have two members from each team line up about 5 feet from each other. The first person in a line will gently toss a water balloon to a partner on the same team. If they catch the balloon at the first distance without popping it, that team receives a point.

The team members then move 10 feet apart and toss the balloon again. A successful toss from the second distance gives the team two points. The distance between the team members is then increased 5 feet at a time until they reach 25 feet. A successful toss from 25 feet gives a team five points. The team that has the most points is the winner.

Water Slide Flag Relay

Water slides are fun for children of all ages. To have fun at an end-of-the-summer party, you need to have two water slides. You will also need to have two water hoses so each slide will have a connected hose to keep it wet and slippery. Set the water slides next to each other (5 or 10 feet apart) in the yard. Stand a rubber or plastic cone at the end of each water slide. Divide the party guests into two equal teams and line them up at each water slide. A starter needs to be present to tell the kids when to start running toward the slide.

Have the kids line up at least 20 feet behind the slides so that they will build plenty of speed when they hit the slide. A point is given for each team whose member knocks over the cone at the end of the slide first. If there are five kids on each team, then the team that wins at least three of the five points is the team winner. You can also let the kids go more than one round and you can give double points in the second round to help a team erase a deficit.
