Choose your blinds in a variety of styles, colors, and materials.
Levolor blinds come in a variety of slat sizes, from 1/2 inch to 2 inches, providing complete light control. You can custom order Levolor metal blinds made from 90 percent recycled aluminum; white, metal mini blinds that you can trim to the exact size of your windows; wood blinds or faux wood blinds made of vinyl. Some Levolor blinds have cordless lift systems that make them safe to use around children and pets. Others have tilt wands you twist in one direction or the other to open and close the blinds. Make certain you have all your tools handy before you begin installing your blinds.
Instructions
Metal Blinds
1. Assemble the extension brackets to the mounting brackets, if your Levolor blinds come with them. These optional brackets have instructions included with your blinds.
2. Mark where you want the bracket mounting holes, inside or outside the mount. Place the box brackets at each end of the headrail. When you mark the hole locations, make certain you keep them equally spaced and square. If you have a center support bracket, center it between the box brackets. Keep the center support brackets spaced up to 30 inches apart if you have more than one. Check the levelness with a spirit level.
3. Install the brackets on the outside mount by using drywall anchors and screws that come with the blinds. Use two screws for each bracket. Install brackets on the inside mount by using two screws for each bracket in a wood window frame. You can install the brackets using the side, top, or back holes.
4. Connect one valance clip to each end of the front of the headrail. If you have other clips, space them evenly. Hook the valance onto each clip.
5. Face the tilt mechanism out and line up the headrail with the box brackets and the center support brackets.
6. Slide the headrail back until it fits easily into the center support brackets. Avoid trapping the brackets' top slat. Bend the tabs out on the headrail ends with a flat head screwdriver until it fits securely, if the headrail slides from side to side while in the box brackets.
7. Lower each box bracket in the front, then press the locking tab until it clicks into place.
8. Secure the tilt wand by removing its rubber cap, then sliding the tilt wand sleeve into the tilter stem. Attach the S-hook's flat end into the tilter stem.
9. Hook the tilt wand end onto the S-hook, then pull the sleeve down on the tilt mechanism.
10. Turn the tilt wand in each direction to make certain it works properly. The tilt wand should open and close the blind slats.
Wood Blinds and Faux Wood Blinds
11. Open the front of the box blind brackets to prepare them for installation. Press on the bottom of the bracket and lift the bracket front at the same time. The locking tab will open.
12. Mark the bracket mounting holes inside the mount. Place the box brackets at each end of the headrail. If you have a center support bracket, center it between the box brackets. Keep the center support brackets spaced up to 30 inches apart if you have more than one. Check the levelness with a spirit level.
13. Drill holes into the marks using a 1/16-inch drill bit. Attach the box brackets using holes on the top, side, or back. Use two screws per bracket.
14. Align the headrail with the brackets, making certain the tilt mechanism faces out. Slide the headrail back into the brackets. If the headrail slides from side to side while in the box brackets, bend the tabs out on the headrail ends with a flat head screwdriver until it fits securely.
15. Lower the open front of each of the box brackets, then press them until the tab clicks into place.
16. Pull up the sleeve on the tilt mechanism, clip the wand end onto the tilt mechanism, then pull the sleeve down onto the tilt mechanism. Practice rotating the tilt wand clockwise and counterclockwise to make certain it works. The tilt wand should open and close the wooden slats.
17.Attach your valance to the headrail by centering it on the headrail, using the headrail slots as markers for the valance clips. You need at least two valance clips. If your valance already comes with the clip locations marked, then position the clips at these marks. Space the provided clips evenly over the existing slots. If you just have two valance clips, use the slots on each headrail end.
18. Insert each clip into the groove on the opposite side of the valance. Rotate the clip 90 degrees to make certain the clip end marked TOP points up.
Tips Warnings
Make certain the headrail matches the width of the window before you start, especially if you have several windows in which to install blinds.
Clean your metal blinds with a damp soft cloth or sponge as they hang, or you can take them down for cleaning. Prevent water spots on your metal blinds by rinsing them with clean water.
Clean your faux wood blinds with a soft damp cloth. Keep your wood blinds clean using a soft dry cloth or vacuum using the round brush attachment. Use lemon oil to protect the finish of the stain-finished hardwood blinds.
Never use abrasive cleaners or hot water on your blinds.
Never pull down on the tilt wand. Rotate it clockwise or counterclockwise to open and close the metal or wooden slats.
Keep the slats in the open position before you lower or raise your blinds, otherwise you can break or wear out your blind cords.
