Pedestal sinks are increasing in popularity due to their elegant European design and space-saving ability. Unlike traditional bathroom sinks, which are embedded into the top of a cabinet, pedestal sinks are supported only by a single column, which saves a substantial amount of floor space. Thankfully, installing a pedestal bathroom sink is a straightforward process that does not require replacement of the existing plumbing lines.
Instructions
1. Cut two 2 x 4 boards with a saw so that each board is 34 inches in length. The boards will be necessary to support the weight of the sink basin before the basin is attached to the wall.
2. Place both the basin and the pedestal in the desired position, then brace the basin with the two 2 x 4 boards.
3. Outline the top of the basin on the wall and the bottom of the pedestal on the floor with a marker, then mark reference points on the floor and the wall through the mounting points located at the back of the basin and on the bottom of the pedestal.
4. Set the boards, basin and the pedestal aside, then use an electric drill to drill pilot holes in the floor and the wall at the marked reference points.
5. Secure the pedestal to the bathroom's floor by positioning the pedestal over the reference points drilled into the floor, then by anchoring the pedestal to the floor with lag screws tighten with a wrench.
6. Position the basin onto the pedestal so that the basin's mounting holes align with the reference points drilled into the wall, then drive lag screws through the basin's mounting holes into the wall with a wrench.
7. Connect the drain pipe to the pedestal and the water supply valves to the basin, then use silicone caulk to seal the crease between the wall and the back of the basin to complete the installation.
