A Sitting Room To A Master Bedroom With A Bay Window

A bay window makes an ideal location for a sitting area in your bedroom.

A bay window is an elegant feature to have in a bedroom. Take advantage of this specially expanded bit of space to create a sitting room or conversation and reading area. This space will make your bedroom much more useful than just a place to sleep at night; you'll find yourself using it during the day as well.

Instructions

1. Place two seating pieces in the bay window area. These might be two matching chairs, either straight or upholstered. You could also use unmatched pieces. Consider a rocking chair, a chaise lounge, or an easy chair with a hassock.

2. Put a small table between the two chairs. Depending on your space, add a tea table that's a good height for eating and large enough to serve dinner for two. If you have a hassock, put a tray on top of it for tea and cookies. Even if you only have space for a tiny stand to set down a drink or book, it's important that you have something besides just the chairs. A round or oval table is easy to squeeze into a tight space and comfortable to sit at.

3. Do something different with the floor than in the rest of your bedroom. If you have a large area rug in the room, leave the bay window floors bare. Or, give this area its own small rug, in a coordinating but different color, to clearly demarcate it as a separate area.

4. Give the space its own lighting, whether a table lamp, standing lamp or candles. If you're going to read there, you'll need a bright light. For romantic dinners, candles or a dimmer light would be better.
