A zebra's graphic markings make a striking decorating statement.
With its high contrast, black and white stripes, zebra print makes a striking decorating statement. However, not all zebra is the same. Depending upon the direction you take, you can decorate a zebra themed bathroom that basic black and white with a punch of color; top to bottom zebra; colorful and bright; or neutral and sophisticated. Use your imagination and creativity to create the zebra bathroom that's just right for you.
Zebra Plus a Bright
Zebra's contrasting black and white stripes provide the perfect backdrop for an eye catching pop of color. For example, in a relatively plain bathroom with white tile and white walls, hang a black and white zebra print shower curtain, then add towels, bath rugs and counter accessories in a single bright color, such as hot pink, purple, red, lime green or orange. Paint wooden cabinets black, if possible. A mirror with a zebra frame or a few zebra print accessories complete the look. This method looks contemporary and fresh, and is practically fail safe. Additionally, it transforms a plain bath very effectively yet easily. Be sure to clear out clutter for this style to look its best.
Going All Out
If you have a very tiny bathroom or a powder room, going all-out zebra is very striking. While this method is too much for a bath of larger size, it can provide a tiny bath with big drama. In this method, have all the walls and ceilings wallpapered in a large-scale zebra print. Use the same print on fabric for the shower curtain and window treatments. Add in some subtle accessories, solid color towels and a dramatic light fixture, such as a crystal chandelier. The light fixture becomes the focal point, and the all-over zebra print adds drama, but doesn't overwhelm because of the room's small size. Painting wooden cabinets black will help you pull off this look.
Colorfully Wild
Zebra print does not have to mean strictly black and white. Shop around and you can find colorful zebra print accessories in every color of the rainbow. Bright zebra prints in orange, hot pink, aqua blue and lime green work especially well in children's bathrooms, and your kids will love the wild colors. Paint the walls a bright color, such as yellow or lime green, then add bright, crazy colored zebra print towels, rugs and accessories. Challenge yourself to decorate the entire bathroom without using any black.
Sophisticated Neutrals
To turn your bathroom into a relaxing, sophisticated retreat, switch gears to neutrals. Just as you can find zebra prints in brights as well as black and white, zebra is also available in subtle, natural shades. Look for zebra bath rugs, towels and accessories in shades of tan, olive, gold, brown and cream. Other earth toned animal prints such as leopard and giraffe can be mixed into this color scheme, if desired, for a safari look.
