Replacing an outdated mirror can transform your bathroom.
Remodeling bathroom walls can drastically change the appearance of the room. The bathroom mirror is often the room's focal point. Getting rid of an outdated, faded mirror and replacing it with a new one can transform your bathroom, making it appear brighter. Before you can install your new mirror, however, you must safely remove the old one. Mirrors may be held to the wall with clips or adhesive; each has a different removal method. Ask a friend to help you remove the mirror. An extra pair of hands is useful if you wish to keep the old mirror intact.
Instructions
1. Put on your long-sleeved shirt, goggles and safety gloves. Cover fixtures with drop cloths to protect them from damage in case the mirror breaks.
2. Unscrew the plastic corner brackets holding your mirror in place, if applicable. Start at the top, then unscrew the bottom. Ask your partner to hold the mirror in place while you unscrew it. Remove the mirror by grabbing one end and having your partner take the opposite end. Walk the mirror slowly out of the bathroom and dispose of it.
3. Slide a piece of cut-out wire behind the top-right corner of the mirror if construction adhesive was used to secure the mirror to the wall. Working with a partner, each pull one end of the wire to saw it back and forth behind the mirror. Move at and angle from top to bottom, sawing the wire down the back of the mirror to release it from the wall. Slowly lift the mirror away from the wall and carry it out.
4. Cut through the drywall around the mirror, another method for removing a mirror that's been glued to the wall. Draw around the perimeter of the mirror with a pencil. Make a 3-inch slice in the drywall with a box cutter. Saw along the line you drew, using the drywall knife, going around the entire perimeter. Push the mirror back and forth gently, freeing it from the drywall. Carry the mirror out carefully.
