Install glass enclosures for your shower to create the illusion of more space.
Designing a small bathroom creates an additional challenge when you intend to pursue a design that maximizes your
Instructions
1. Calculate the square footage available for the shower design. Plan for a shower area measuring a minimum of 3 square feet. Take out your tape measure and calculate your shower space if you are remodeling a preexisting bathroom shower.
2. Calculate your budget for your new shower. Consider the cost of installation if you are planning to hire a contractor. Add the cost of tile, fixtures, flooring and walls.
3. Pick out the colors for your shower walls or tile. Choose light, neutral colors that will open up your small shower area and create the illusion of more space. Avoid busy patterns that will make your shower feel smaller.
4. Design your shower enclosure. Choose glass enclosures that will extend the square footage of your bathroom. Plan a tiered wall of glass blocks that will add interest to your bathroom and leave an open entry that will give you more room in the shower.
5. Consider changing your bathroom into a "wet room" by allowing your shower and toilet to share one open space. Plan for an extra floor drain in the center of your bathroom and design your bathroom floors to slope toward the drain.
6. Browse your local home improvement store for space-saving fixtures to put in your shower. Look for one-knob options for the hot and cold water and for a sleek, compact showerhead.
