A bedroom canopy can turn your little girl's room into a world of ethereal playdom. Flowing fabric transforms her bed into the walls of a majestic castle and she is the most beautiful princess. Constructed a little differently and your own room becomes an elegant escape from the outside world. From the store, canopies can be costly. With a little creativity, you can make your own, one of a kind, canopy for a fraction of the cost.

Make Bedroom Canopies
1. Decide at what place on the ceiling you want the canopy frame to be hung. Hold the hula hoop up to this spot and use it as a guide to mark four places at equal distances apart on the ceiling. It helps if as many of these points as possible are located on a beam or stud as the weight of the canopy or a firm tug could pull an unsecured canopy down from the ceiling. Screw the plant hooks into these spots, checking often (by holding the hula hoop back up to the ceiling) that the hooks are in the proper placement to hold the hula hoop. When finished, all screws should have the hooks facing in toward the middle.
2. Make sure you have enough curtain panels to thoroughly drape across the area you want covered. For my daughter's bed, we used eight panels. There should be enough curtain that it is gathered all the way around the hula hoop. Sew or glue any desired craft notions to the inside or the outside of the curtains. Ribbons, bows, flowers, glitter, and jewels are some ideas of what to use.
3. If the hula hoop has a seam or fit inside, try to disconnect it from itself. If you cannot, or if there is no seam, use the hack saw to cut the ring in one spot. Once completed, you will have an opening into the ring.
4. Put the curtains onto the hula hoop as you would if it were a curtain rod via the opening you just created. For aesthetics, put the curtains on the hoop with the right sides facing out.
5. Reconnect the hula hoop and duct tape the seam. Cover the taped area with curtain to hide the tape.
