Instructions
1. Select the colors for the room, deciding on one or two main colors that will set the theme for the room. You will be placing these colors on the walls, curtains and bed linens. Choose polka dots in cool colors like purple, blue and aqua to create a fun atmosphere, or decorate the room with a warm color scheme such as yellow or orange, and incorporate flowers, such as daisies, in an off-white color.
2. Create and decorate a workspace area for your daughter. She will begin having more and more homework and will need a space of her own to focus. Place a desk in the room with a bulletin board, and encourage her to hang up pictures of friends with picture frames that match the theme. Add a stylish lamp in a bold color to complete the workspace.
3. Provide room for your preteen girl to simply hang out with friends. Place a beanbag chair in this area with a bookshelf. Add crates, painted to match the room, for your teen to store items like magazines and scrapbooks.
4. Hang up shelves in the room to display her achievements or prized possessions. She can show off her trophies, figurines and potted plants here, for instance.
5. Update the furniture in the room. The addition of new furniture should create a more mature atmosphere, giving her a sense of pride and sophistication.
6. Let your girl display her personality and interests in the room. Encourage her to hang up posters of her favorite band, framed artwork that she admires, or Hollywood hunks that she adores, allowing her to make the room truly her own.
