Add white vinegar and tea tree oil to the mop water to deodorize it.
Americans spend more than $5 billion a year on room deodorizers in the form of scented oils, candles and aerosol sprays. These expensive products evaporate into the atmosphere quickly, along with your money. The synthetic chemicals and oil-based products used to make many of these deodorizers are hazardous to your health and the planet. You can save money by purchasing the cheapest commercial bathroom deodorizers; but if you want to save as much money as possible, do what your great-grandmother did: make your own.
Cotton Balls and Essential Oil
Put a few drops of your favorite essential oil on some cotton balls and place them between the toilet paper roll and the holder. A roll of the toilet paper dispenses the fragrance.
White Vinegar and Baking Soda
To clean, deodorize and disinfect at the same time, use baking soda and white vinegar. Sprinkle baking soda on a wet sponge or directly in the sink and scrub. It does just as good a job as the commercial cleansers without the chemical-laden dust. Pour about 1/2-cup of
White Vinegar and Essential Oil
Make a deodorizing spray with white vinegar and peppermint essential oil. Fill a fine mist spray bottle with straight white vinegar and add 20 to 30 drops of peppermint oil. You can also use your favorite essential oil. Shake the bottle before using and spray the mist around the bathroom to quickly absorb the odors while leaving a pleasant smell behind.
Deodorizer in a Box
In a box of baking soda, add 10 or more drops of your favorite essential oil. Set the open box in the bathroom to absorb odors and leave a pleasant fragrance. You can also put the deodorizer in a decorative box if you wish.
