Redecorate A Master Bedroom

Enjoy creating a different look for a master bedroom.

Redecorating a master bedroom can involve updating your furniture, decor and paint. Decide beforehand the type of effect you want to create. For example, a soft, romantic bedroom would need an entirely different color scheme from a modern or rustic bedroom.

Instructions

1. Choose a color palette and style you would like to use for the master bedroom. Colors can dramatically transform your room or create a more subtle change to impart a fresh look. Certain colors work better with different woods. For instance, painted white furniture will be complemented by pastel shades but could be overwhelmed by deeper, rich colors like burgundy. However, deeper colors work well with cherry wood or other darker furniture, such as mahogany. Select colors based on the style you have chosen. For example, earth tones such as brown, beige and green complement a modern, rustic or western style bedroom.

2. Consider whether you wish to replace the furniture or modify it. Painting wooden furniture can give it a whole new look. Rearranging the furniture can also give a different dimension to the space.

3. Add accessories to suit the style of the room. Small touches such as dried flowers in a vase on the dresser or old-fashioned jewelry boxes can accent a romantic room. Rustic decor such as painted rocks, pinecones and other materials from the outdoors work well in a western or country-styled room.

4. Use fabrics to reflect the style and color palette of the room. Sheer, silk or velvet fabrics in rich or pastel shades work well for a romantic or french country room. Solid earth-tone colored fabrics in natural materials such as heavy cotton and wool for a rustic or western room. Deeper colors such as burgundy, forest green or dark blue work well in either solid or abstract-patterned fabrics for a modern bedroom.

5. Hang framed art or photos that accent the decor in your room. Choose pictures of lavender or roses for a romantic room. A picture of a Victorian home or cottage works with a french country room. Photos or abstract pictures of landscapes suit a modern room and western subjects are good for a country or western room. Choose frames that match the furniture in the room. White frames go well with white furniture and cherry wood or silver frames work in a romantic room. Solid oak frames work for most styles, especially a rustic or western room. Sleek metal frames will work in a modern room.
