Use Barn Wood To Decorate A Dining Room

Repurpose old barn wood for a colorful and eclectic dining room.

If you live in a rural area, you have probably seen the sad, old abandoned barn. Left to age in the weather, barn wood gathers a unique patina, sometimes with old, crumpled paint, and sometimes with no paint at all. This aged and weathered character lends itself well to country decor. Choose old, weathered barn wood planks and sections, and add them to your dining room decor for a relaxed, welcoming setting.

Instructions

1. Attach barn wood planks to the dining room walls to create paneling. Nail it in with a nail gun and carpentry nails. Create a wainscoting around the perimeter of the dining room, and cap off with a wider plank of barn wood to form a chair rail.

2. Create picture and photo frames from barn wood. Cut and nail together sections of barn wood to fit your photos. Hang the photos on the walls to add warmth and personality.

3. Create a barn wood trivet to use on the dining table. Simply cut a section of barn wood, sand it slightly smooth and cover the bottom with a piece of felt to prevent scratching. Use for your hot pans and dishes you place on the table.

4. Cover old dining tables and sideboards with a new surface, using old barn wood. Sand sections and cut to size. Nail down the sections on top of old dining tables or sideboards to revitalize and add a country decor. Paint the legs to match other decor in the room.

5. Create shelves with barn wood planks. Mount on the wall with L-shaped brackets. Display dishes, pottery and accessories on the shelves.
