Hibiscus flowers work really well in a tropical room.
Create a tropical garden oasis in your teenage daughter's bedroom. Use plants, animals and tropical scenery to inspire your designs, and ask your daughter to get involved in the entire process. Showcase paintings of tropical blooms found in Hawaii and other island destinations. Find all sorts of tropical decor online or in department stores.
Colors
Paint the room with colors that remind you of the tropics. Sky blue walls with painted white fluffy clouds go well with these types of rooms, but you can also use brighter colors such as yellow, orange, lime green, lavender and pink. Ask your daughter to pick a shade that resembles her favorite flower from the tropics, or see if she wants to showcase a tropical beach mural on one of the walls. You can paint the mural yourself, hire and artist or buy large mural wall stickers to go on one main wall.
Silk Tropical Flowers and Plants
Place silk tropical flowers such as orchids and hibiscus in vases, and place these on your daughter's dresser or nightstand. Fake palm trees can also dress up a lonely corner along with adding more greenery to the room. You can also tie yellow ribbons around the flowers, and hang these up around the four corners of your daughter's bedposts.
Birds From the Tropics
Use twine string to hang up fake, yet realistic-looking ceramic or stuffed birds from the ceiling. Cut the string at various lengths so each bird soars at a different height. Place a birdcage with a fake parrot inside, and dress up the exterior of the cage with more tropical silk flowers. Little bird sculptures and other decor goes well on shelves.
Furniture
Decorate with classic white or rustic wooden furniture. If you can afford it, buy bamboo furniture with the details of bamboo stalks seen in the wood grain. A basic bed with a few wicker chairs can also work. A folding bamboo dressing divider can really add to the room along with bamboo fans. Fancy, cherry wood furnishings don't really go well with a tropical theme.
