Clean Restrooms

A bathroom can harbor illness-causing germs even when the surfaces look clean. The following tasks can be done in about an hour or can be split into brief bursts each day. By cleaning on a regular basis, you avoid stubborn, built-up grime and spend less time cleaning your restroom.

Instructions

Clean Restrooms

1. Gather tools. Mix 1 cup vinegar and 1/4 cup shampoo in a quart size spray bottle. Fill bottle with water.

2. If you have a removable shower curtain, remove and wash it with vinegar in hot water. Do not put vinyl in the dryer.

3. Remove all items from the floor. Place hampers and trash cans outside the door. If necessary, wash your rug(s). Clear countertops, placing items that stay into a basket.

4. Spray the shower/tub thoroughly with the vinegar mixture, including the faucet and shower head. If you have shower doors, spray them too. Use a scrubby sponge to spread cleanser throughout the surface, and spray again. Let it work while you clean the rest of the room.

5. Use the toilet brush on the bowl, under and on top of the rim. Spray with the vinegar mixture, and use the brush again. For stains or mineral deposits, wet a pumice and rub the stained area. Flush the toilet. Pour 2 cups of vinegar into the toilet bowl. Flush after you finish the room.

Note: A pumice can only be used on porcelain. If your toilet or sink is made of another material, consult the manufacturer before using this type of abrasive cleaning tool.

6. Spray the countertops and sink with the vinegar mixture. Wipe the counter tops with a sponge. Rinse with warm water. Clean the sink, including the plug area with a sponge. If you can remove the plug, take it out and check for debris. Rinse the sink with hot water.

7. Lightly spray the mirror and faucet. Use microfiber cloth to wipe dry.

8. Spray outside of the toilet. Wipe the top of the tank, between the seat and tank, the area below the bowl and near the floor with a sponge.

9. Vacuum or sweep the floor.

10. Spray the tub again. If stubborn dirt remains, use a sponge and full strength shampoo to scrub. If you have a porcelain tub, use the scrubby side. Avoid using abrasives on fiberglass. Rinse with warm water.

11. Wipe the faucet, shower head and doors with a sponge. Dry and polish with a microfiber cloth. Replace the shower curtain.

12. Spot clean walls and doors by spraying vinegar mixture on the sponge. Wipe around the light switch and door handle.

13. Spray the floor and baseboards with vinegar mixture. Damp mop with a sponge. Rinse the sponge in the tub or sink as you go.

14. Replace the countertop items, rugs, hamper and trash can.
