Dining Room Cleaning Tips

Keep your dining room spotless.

Spring cleaning can happen any time of the year or whenever you feel that urge to deep clean your house. The dining room is sometimes overlooked, depending on how often it's used. Even if you only use your dining room on special occasions, it still collects dust and dirt. Your dining room may have high ceilings and tough-to-reach places that are missed during routine house cleaning; however, there are number of dining room cleaning tips to keep you on top of it all.

Remove Clutter

Sometimes dining rooms become the catchall for clutter. Newspapers, toys and mail often wind up in the dining room. Gather all the items that don't belong and put them aside in another room to go through at a later time. If you have small figurines and knickknacks throughout your dining room, dust them, and put them in their proper place. If you still have some holiday knickknacks out and the holidays are over, put those in storage.

Focus on Hard-to-Reach Places

Remove any window treatments and wash them, including shades or binds. Wipe down any woodwork, especially baseboards and doorways. Carefully use a ladder to clean light fixtures, the top of the walls, corners, ceiling and, if you have one, the ceiling fan. Move dining room furniture to clean behind it. If you have heavy pieces of furniture, such as a curio cabinet or dining hutch, get help moving those items.

Use Specific Cleaners

Most dining rooms are filled with various types of fixtures and furniture; clean these items with cleaners made specifically for them. Use brass polish for brass items, sliver polish for sliver items and wood polish for any wood furniture. Clean windows with glass cleaner, and spot clean any upholstery. Vacuum carpeted floor, mop and wax wooden flooring.
