Western Cowboystyle Bedroom Ideas

Design a room fit for a cowboy hero.

Bring the spirit of the West home by designing a Western cowboy-style bedroom with old-fashioned decor, earth tones and furniture reminiscent of the Old West. Picture a Western scene from an old movie, and transform these ideas into your decorating plans. Choose a rustic style from the past or a more modern Western bedroom.

Paint

Leave the walls white, or paint with rustic earth tones and colors that match the type of Western cowboy room you are trying to create. You can use dark colors, but avoid painting all the walls dark. Only use dark shades such as burgundy, forest green or plum if you want to create an accent wall, and leave the remaining walls white. Determine what type of look you are going for before you begin painting. You can create a cowboy room with a feminine touch by painting the walls yellow or baby blue. However, paint all the walls beige, tan or other shades of brown if you want a rustic, manly cowboy room.

Decor

Visit your local antique shop or department store to find Western wall decor such as ropes, old saddles, cowboy figurines and old-fashioned guns. Place these items on your dresser, shelves or nightstand. Hang framed pictures of Western heroes from classic movies. Look for cowboy pillows to place on your bed or other furnishings. You may also want to feature cowboy lamps, miniature Western towns and small horse carriages.

Bedroom Furniture

Buy rustic wooden furniture that looks like it belongs in a log cabin. Solid oak, pine or other hardwoods work well, but cherry wood is too fancy for a Western room. If you can't afford solid oak, look for discontinued furniture, or buy secondhand furnishings. Sanding down some types of furniture can also create a more worn-out look.

Additional Accents

Additional accents can add even more appeal to your cowboy-themed bedroom. An antique rocking chair in the corner of the room with a cowboy pillow on the seat or a blanket draped over it can add a finishing touch to the room. Extra features, such as a deer antler or Western-style chandelier can also complement the style of the room. You can also find cowboy light switch plates online or at some home improvement stores.
