Design A Tween Bedroom

Tweens are at that in-between age

A tween is at the stage of life between that of a young child and becoming a teenager. During this interval, which is usually between the ages of nine and 13, there are likely to be changes in opinion about what is considered an ideal bedroom. For this reason, it might be time to discuss with your tween about designing a room that will be age-appropriate and will not need to be redecorated in just a matter of years.

Instructions

1. Decide upon the colors of the room by discussing with your tween his or her preferences. Visit local hardware or home improvement outlets to determine color schemes. Many stores will even allow you to suggest colors that you want created based on a sample. For girls, tween room colors may include softer pastel purples, greens or pinks. For boys, a tween room may include different shades of blue and warmer tones of grey, brown or black.

2. Choose your bedding. Toddler beds are smaller and often come with rails. By the time your child reaches their "tween" age they will probably appreciate a bed that gives them room to grow. Visit major department stores and mattress specialty shops to find a bed that will give your tween comfort, but also make him or her feel that they have a more mature sleeping space.

3. Accessorize the space. This is an opportunity to add important finishing touches and special accents that express a tween's personality. Talk to your child about his or her favorite bands, musicians, actors and actresses, so that you can purchase posters to hang on the wall. You might also include a solid area rug or throw rug to help finalize the space with a bold look. Other ways to accessorize a tween bedroom might include colorful halogen lamps, a desk for studying and different types of media, such as a television or stereo.
