Arrange Your Teenage Daughter'S Bedroom

Choose pieces such as a steamer trunk to help arrange your teen's room.

As your teenage daughter grows older, she'll begin to have some ideas about the way she decorates and arranges her bedroom. The best way to organize her room is to employ systems that help her to not only organize her space, but also appeal to her decorating style. There are many pieces of furniture, as well as decorative accessories, that serve both these purposes. Using them will help her arrange her space without compromising her style.

Instructions

1. Make the bed area the room's focal point by choosing a bed that makes the best use of the space and appeals to your daughter's visual sense. Modern loft beds look fashionable while creating additional floor space, because they raise the bed high off the ground, creating extra space underneath. Use the area underneath the bed to store a futon or desk. Select a bed that your teenage daughter likes, and paint it with a fashionable color scheme such as hot pink and black.

2. Create a central message area for your teen so that the lines of communication stay open. Paint her door with some black chalkboard paint and hang up a small set of floating shelves for containers that will hold chalk and rag erasers. Write your messages on the chalkboard area. Give her a place for her own messages by hanging a French bulletin board by her bed or desk. Suggest that your teen organize pictures of friends on the board, coupons for a movie discount or notes for a class on the board.

3. Organize her closet. Hang up wire racks for her pants, and hang a shoe organizer on the back of the door. Slide a set of portable drawers into the closet and fill them with extra socks or nylons. Find these in the home areas of local department stores. Make sure she has plenty of hangers. Make sure her clothes hamper is small enough to fit into her closet and big enough to hold at least a medium-size load of laundry.

4. Buy items that help her organize and arrange her stuff. Get things such as an antique steamer trunk for the end of her bed, under-the-bed boxes that feature a floral design or key hooks that she paints with her favorite decorative pattern that will match the decor while helping her stow items in their proper places.

5. Buy some double-duty decorative accessory pieces for her room. Arrange her TV and DVD player and her books in an entertainment armoire. Buy an ottoman for the end of her bed that has a storage compartment in it. Build a bench for her window seat that has a hidden compartment; she can store her extra blankets or arrange her winter sweaters in its cavity.
