Cabin Design Ideas For A Boy'S Bedroom

Bring the outside in by creating a cabin in the woods of a boy's bedroom.

Create a rustic and woodsy atmosphere in any boy's room by creating a cabin for him to sleep in. Turning his bedroom into something special gives him a chance to exercise his imagination in a safe environment, free from bugs, ants and wild animals. With a little adult imagination you can work wonders by adding a few touches to make his bedroom appear to be right in the heart of the woods.

Furniture

Look for wood logs that can be made into stools for a cabin room.

The main part of the design for a cabin-style room will be the furniture. Look for rustic chairs, bed, dresser and desk made of heavy wood or logs. Add a log stool or two by using real logs, stripped of bark and sanded, then sealed to preserve them. Create an easy headboard by nailing pine half-logs that are just longer than the width of the mattress to three two-by-four boards, then hanging it on the wall behind the bed. Use more half-logs for shelves above a rustic desk.

Walls and Windows

Painting the walls is perhaps the easiest way to decorate the walls and windows in a cabin-themed room. Choose an earth-tone shade that is warm and welcoming and that will work well with the tone of the wood furniture. Full wall murals are available as a wallpaper that can literally make the room appear to be outside. A combination of the two also works well, with paint used on the majority of the walls and a faux window created from a small wallpaper mural framed by a "window" created from wood and wood shutters.

Real window treatments can also be cabin themed using dark-colored material and a valance of some wilderness-patterned material or flannel. Attach shutters to the inside of the windows to enhance the cabin look.

Accessories and Accents

Mounted antlers add to the cabin look

This is definitely a case where the accessories and accents you place in the room enhance the theme. Look for very rustic items to use. Wrought iron or antler lamps, a faux deer head or mounted antlers to hang on the wall, paintings or photographs of woodland scenes, or an electric fireplace all add to the ambience. Carry the theme right into the bedding and pillow shams using rich greens or dark flannels typically found in lodge decor. Look for faux hide throws or a faux bearskin for the floor.
