Stencils make creative painting in the bathroom easy enough for anyone to do.
Stenciling
Educational Stenciling
A child's bathroom can be a place of learning. Very young kids can get a jumpstart on schooling by learning their ABCs that you have stenciled onto the walls. Older kids can learn to read by stenciling things like "Towels" over the towel rack and "Hot" and "Cold" over the faucets that control the water temperatures.
Design Your Own Stencils
You can buy stencils at art and painting supply stores, but if your decor is built upon a personal icon, image or pattern, you can make your own bathroom stencils so that this room fits into the overall design schema. Trace a copy of the stenciled design you have in mind, or, if you don't possess quite that much artistic ability, you can make a photocopy and simply cut the stencil out, which turns your bathroom into anything from retro 50s to French Provincial to a futuristic design.
Stencils and Stamps
Add some stamping to your stenciling. Walls, ceilings and floors can all be decorated using stenciled words which are adorned by stamps of the appropriate images. For instance, you can stencil the words of your child's favorite book, and decorate with stamps of the characters from that book. You can stencil appropriate words like "Whites," "Colors" and "Mixes" over the laundry baskets, and add stamps that reflect the types of items to toss into each particular basket.
Floor Stenciling
The floor is an ideal place to try out geometric patterns with stencils. A hard concrete foundation or a hardwood floor inside the bathroom should be given a thorough cleaning, and you can then feel free to use stencils to give the flooring an additional level of style and character. The floor of the kids' bathroom can be stenciled with familiar character shapes while the master bathroom can be given a sophisticated look using a mixture of colors that takes geometry within the bathroom to a whole new level.
Large-Scale Stencil Mural
A bathroom can be transformed by creating a large-scale mural using stencils. Giant stencils allow you to create a whole new design concept that can range from a jungle filled with various animals to a trompe l'oeil effect in which you make it appear as though eyes are peeking through cracks in a plaster wall that runs the length of the actual bathroom wall.
