Some attic bedrooms may possess plenty of natural light while others are darker.
An attic space can be a guest bedroom, a master bedroom or even a bedroom for the teenager needing more space and privacy. Attic spaces, like basements, tend to have less natural light than other spaces. The paint color can make a difference in the overall presentation of the bedroom.
Simple and Classic
Go classic white and create a wide open canvas in your attic. White walls open up what is traditionally a dark space. Add plenty of stainless steel lamps and an assortment of black and white photography. Keep furnishings, such as your bed frame and bedroom set, cottage classic with white painted or white stained simple finishes. Pine is ideal and classic. Add white molding borders to the room for additional depth; this also adds the perception of space to the room.
Light and Bright
Light colors also make an ideal addition to an attic bedroom. A pale yet perky blue, a country-style yellow or even a soft peach are all bright and welcoming and will add to a room that does not have tons of natural lighting. Even in rooms with plenty of natural light these colors will add brightness and volume. Light versions of pink, beige and green are other options.
Focal Point
Add an accent wall to a primarily white or light colored space. A single accent wall will work in an attic that is well-lit or an attic that does not have an abundance of natural light. Accent walls can be any darker color or even another lighter color. They typically contrast with the existing colors in the room and add additional style and character to the space.
Paint with Pattern
Paint your walls the color of your choice but consider creating a pattern in your attic space. In a situation where you want lighter colored paint but want something out of the ordinary, create style by drawing horizontal, vertical or diagonal stripes on the wall. You can also create your own tartan, polka dot or abstract theme.
