Care For A Vintage Bathroom Sink

Keep that vintage bathroom sink in beautiful condition with proper care.

Many people choose to replace older or vintage bathroom sinks while renovating a bathroom, but a functional vintage sink can add charm to your bathroom. If you have a vintage sink in your bathroom, it's wise to care for it with supplies and techniques that help you maintain its condition. For decades, porcelain enamel has been the prime material used for bathroom sinks. This durable material is simple to clean and looks beautiful for years if you clean and care for it properly.

Instructions

1. Care for your vintage sink by cleaning it with supplies that are effective but safe for the surface. Fill a spray bottle with 4 ounces of water. Add 4 ounces of white vinegar. Close the bottle and shake to mix the solution.

2. Spritz the diluted vinegar over your vintage sink's surface. Allow it to sit for one minute to loosen hard-water deposits and kill mold and mildew.

3. Sprinkle baking soda onto a damp sponge.

4. Scrub the vintage sink surface with the nonabrasive combination to remove dirt and stains. Rinse the vintage sink surface to wash away the dirt and baking soda residue.

5. Dry the sink surface with a clean cloth. Pour a quarter-sized amount of olive oil onto a clean, dry cloth.

6. Rub the oil into the cleaned sink surface. Remove excess oil with another cloth and buff the surface to a shine to add luster and protect the surface from water stains.
