Arranging a small bedroom with big furniture can be a challenge as far as making the room look attractive and not too crowded. Consider the room layout before beginning. The bedroom is likely to have two long walls, but one may actually be shorter than the other because of closet doors, windows or a doorway. The shorter walls may have the same features. Plan to not have furniture entirely filling a wall if possible, because that is an obvious way to make a room look overcrowded.
Instructions
1. Decide how much of your bedroom furniture must actually be placed in this room. Can you get by with just the bed, one nightstand and one dresser? The less furniture in a small bedroom, the better.
2. Decide first where the bed will go, since this is the largest piece of furniture. Ideally, it will be placed against one of the long walls to provide balance, and the headboard will not be directly across from the doorway.
3. Place the bed so it does not impede the entryway or any
4. Add only one nightstand if possible. It should not be located between the bed and the wall, but on the other side of the bed. If two nightstands are necessary, avoid placing lamps on both of them, as this tends to make a small room look smaller.
5. Place smaller furniture against the shorter walls if this works. You might consider putting a tall dresser against a short wall, with a bureau-style dresser against the long wall opposite the bed. If possible, use under-bed storage instead of one of the dressers.
6. Add a small chair to provide balance to the room, placed opposite the bed, perhaps at an angle in a corner.
7. Decide whether you want to hang pictures on the walls. In a small bedroom, pictures will make the room feel smaller, so do this sparingly.
8. Avoid clutter. A small bedroom is not the place for laundry hampers, knick-knacks and other non-essential items.
