Rearrange Your Bedroom Furniture

Rearranging your bedroom furniture can make the room either more aesthetically pleasing or functional.

The bedroom is your place to go a little crazy with decorating as you only have to satisfy yourself. Bedroom design can get a little boring over time and one way to reenergize the bedroom is by rearranging the furniture. While you can feel free to go wild with your furniture choices, there are a few rules regarding bedroom arrangement to keep in mind.

Instructions

1. Place your bed against an inner wall rather than an outer wall. Placing the bed against an outer wall will expose it to the external elements. This can mean a colder bed during winter or an overly warm sleeping experience during summer.

2. Make sure your placement of the bed does not obstruct the opening of the bedroom door. You want to avoid making the bed an obstacle that must be circumvented every time you enter the room.

3. Arrange your furniture so that the area directly opposite the bed creates a sense of balance. Place an armoire or a computer desk against that wall. You can achieve symmetry by making these opposing sections of the room harmonize through the use of furnishings. Other possibilities are the placement of a bookshelf, chest of drawers or makeup table.

4. Rearrange your bedroom furniture to provide you with more efficiency and time-saving elements. Arrange the various furnishings according to need when you wake up to get ready for the day. Place the drawers in which you keep underwear and socks next to the bed. Next to that should be the wardrobe armoire that contains jackets, pants, shirts and dresses. Position this next to the closet where your other clothing is hanging up. Create a bedroom plan that conforms to your daily morning routine to cut down on wasted movement back and forth across the room.

5. Rearrangement of your bedroom furniture should lead to the creation of easier access. Make sure to allow at least two feet on either side of your bed for unobstructed movement. This will allow you to make the bed more easily.

6. Make sure to place dressers in a place that allows 36 to 40 inches in front for the opening of drawers. Keep your furnishings at least three feet away from the closet to give yourself ample space for dressing and easy retrieval of clothing from the closet.

7. Give yourself a little more space by using just one nightstand rather than one on each side of the bed. You can provide even more space by placing the bed lengthways against one wall. Provide a bench at the foot of the bed for a sitting space for putting on socks and shoes. Choose a bench that folds open for storage space.
