Decorate A Bedroom On A Budget

Decorative pillowcases can add an inexpensive splash of color to any bedroom.

Decorating your bedroom on a tight budget may call for some creative ideas, but that means you'll have a lot more fun than someone who simply hires an interior designer. Source your furnishings from family heirlooms and yard sale finds, supplemented with some clever bargain-shopping. Rather than combining a pricey array of store-bought products, you can gather an eclectic array of materials that will take on a personality that is uniquely yours.

Instructions

1. Repaint just one wall of your bedroom instead of painting all four walls. For example, apply a strong accent color to the wall behind your bed to add depth and impact to the room. If your bedroom is small, you may be able to complete this project with a single quart of paint.

2. Dress up your floor with one or more small area rugs, even if your bedroom already features wall-to-wall carpeting. An appropriately-sized area rug will feel good underfoot and add a visual exclamation point to your flooring.

3. Replace the knobs and pulls on your dressers and side tables. Hardware stores and home centers offer plenty of attractive choices, but there are also specialty stores that provide some more innovative designer options.

4. Spice up your bed with new pillowcases in attractive hues that complement the color of your existing bedding. You can utilize them to cover the pillows you sleep on, or use them to dress up some tired old throw pillows.

5. Bring your bedroom decor to life with some potted greenery. Select low-maintenance plants that thrive in the level of sunlight your windows allow. Plants help keep the air in your bedroom fresh while adding color. Consider succulent varieties such as Sansevieria, which are available at garden centers and home centers in a variety of shapes and sizes.
