Be creative when looking for Western-style decor.
Western-style bedrooms don't have to be just for children. Turn your room into a rustic retreat with some natural elements and a bit of imagination. Old West-inspired elements come largely from nature, ranch-style living, and Native-American culture. Visit secondhand stores and auctions for authentic memorabilia that will set your room apart.
Bed
A barn door-style headboard and footboards use the typical X-in-the-square detail, but look for the more sophisticated wood-colored pieces, as red and white looks too juvenile. You can buy them already distressed, find them at a secondhand store, or distress them yourself with some sandpaper. Finish the look with a vintage-looking quilt.
Furniture
Choose either dark leather chairs with natural cowhides and nailhead trims, or modest wooden chairs and stools. A stone fireplace adds some additional coziness. To really play on the theme, install a mini saloon---the western equivalent of a minibar---to hold your night caps. Choose a beautifully carved dark wooden desk, and fill the shelves with bottles and glasses.
Accents
Hang decorative wooden beams across your ceiling, with an antler chandelier in the center of your room. Horseshoes, cowboy hats, saddle blankets and wooden stars are appropriate wall decorations. Look for lamps with rawhide-inspired shades.
