Incorporate Decorative Posts In A Dining Room'S Design

Framing the dining room in decorative columns separates the space elegantly in your home.

An elegant way to incorporate decorative posts in a dining room's design is to separate the space from the rest of the house using them. In open spaces, use columns to encircle the area. In closed-off rooms, place one on either side of the doorway that leads into it. Architectural touches such as these add visual interest, even if you cannot work them into the actual structure of the space. Use matching or complementary decorative posts in other design elements when decorating your dining room as well.

Instructions

1. Use decorative posts that have been cut in half vertically as side trim around any doors in the room. Trim out the sides of windows with the same look.

2. Use complementary columns to frame any built-ins in the space. Use ones of the same color to add interest to buffets, china hutches and fireplaces.

3. Bring in a table with a base that resembles columns. If you cannot find one that matches your decorating scheme, have a table custom-made that incorporates the same decorative posts that are already in your dining room's design.

4. Use columns that are chair rail height as stand-alone display areas. For example, place one on either side of the buffet, and set plants or vases on them.

5. Place small complementary columns in the center of the table, on a fireplace mantel or on top of a hutch or buffet as accessories. Use them to hold pillar candles, small serving platters and other items while entertaining guests.
