Nature Inspired Bathroom Ideas

Elements from nature can have a calming and soothing effect on the mind and body. A nature-inspired bathroom is an ideal environment for a relaxing shower or hot soak at the end of a long day. If this is the idea you're going for in your bathroom, draw your colors, materials and textures from nature to create your own personal retreat.

Colors

Use nature as your inspiration when you're selecting the colors for your bathroom. For example, choose soft yellow if getting up early on a sunny summer morning is your cup of tea. Or choose sky blue for a relaxing and tranquil atmosphere. Green and brown might suit you if you love the sights and scents of a mature, misty forest.

Natural Elements

Use natural elements for your bathroom, such as river stones, tabletop water fountains and plants. Fill the bathroom with greenery to give it the lush appearance of an indoor garden. Essential oils or candles with scents inspired by nature offer the benefits of aromatherapy and relaxation while adding to your natural-bathroom environment. Using scents and aromatherapy for the soothing benefits also adds to the spa atmosphere. Choose stone sinks and bronze fixtures for a rustic look.

Accessories

Continue your natural look in the accessories you choose, such as hampers, soap dishes, towels and towel racks. Select wicker for baskets to hold soaps, towels and clothing. Find bamboo-cotton towels and shower curtain. Look for wastebaskets cups and tissue-box covers with ferns or other greenery on them.

Light

A bathroom with skylights or large windows allows sunlight to bathe the room. Keep window treatments simple to allow the sunlight to filter into the room. In bathrooms without large windows, lighting fixtures in distressed brass or copper are additional rustic touches. Bathrooms with a great deal of natural light can make smaller bathrooms feel spacious, as well.
