Remove A Moen Bathroom Faucet

Remove a Moen bathroom faucet in no time at all.

The Moen company manufactures and distributes varying bathroom faucet styles. With the use of their cartridge-designed bathroom faucets, Moen faucets feature a single-handed design that controls the hot and cold temperatures, as well as the on and off positions. Whether you are replacing the faucet or fixing a leak, removing a Moen bathroom faucet is a simple process.

Instructions

1. Turn the faucet's water supply off. Locate the main water supply lines coming down from the main bathroom faucet fixture--underneath the sink. Grasp both of the handles on the water supply lines, and turn clockwise. If a problem persists that prevents the water from shutting off at the faucet water lines under the sink, shut the water at the main water valve. Push the water faucet's handle to the "On" position to flush the remaining water in the lines out into the sink.

2. Cover the drain hole with a piece of cloth to prevent loose screws and other small parts from slipping down the sink drain.

3. Use a wrench to disconnect the water supply lines from the bathroom faucet. Grasp the connecting nut, which is located at the base of the water supply line, and turn counterclockwise with the wrench. Repeat this process on the other water supply line. Set the connecting nuts and water supply lines aside.

4. Grasp the retention screws with a pair of pliers and turn counterclockwise. The retention screws are where the water supply lines were connected.

5. Wear gloves to run the blade of a utility knife along the faucet base to remove caulk. Go slowly so you do not scratch the bathroom countertop. Discard all caulk pieces.

6. Use a flat-head screwdriver to remove the index plate from the faucet handle. This index plate is a decorative piece, also referred to as the cover plate. Take care when prying the index plate from the faucet handle as it may scratch the metal when using excessive force.

7. Remove the screw that holds the faucet handle in place with a screwdriver. Lift the handle off the faucet and set aside. Use adjustable pliers to turn and remove the Moen faucet bonnet nut. Turn the nut counterclockwise with the adjustable pliers. Set the faucet bonnet nut aside and pull the entire Moen bathroom faucet up and out of the sink or countertop.
