Install A Bathroom Vanity Light

Bathroom light for over sink installation

Bathroom lights can be a challange, its not impossible to do and can be done in minimal time and frustration if you know what to look for and apply the methods learned.

Instructions

1. To begin installing a bathroom light you may have an old light already there that's just outdated and your tired of looking at it or you want more lighting. There are a number of lights on the market, a common fixture is a strip type lighting fixture which holds 5-6 light bulbs. This is the type I will explain set and wire up

2. To begin take down the old light fixture, you will have a box there with wires in it, it may be an old box which will not fit your new fixture. No worries, you can pick up a new box that fits in the wall which has wings on it and clips to the inside of the wall once you tighten down the screws. if setting a new box when bringing in the old wire to the box make sure you use a connector (romex connector 1/2" to fit in the back of the box and bring the wire in.

3. Once the wire is in its time to set your light and wire it up. Place the light over the junction box and level it off. You may want to draw a pencil line under the new light and take it back down. Pop out the center Knockout seal, this is a small circular tab that can be popped out. The wires will go into the light through this knockout hole. On the sides of the light you will have more smaller knockout holes for you to pop out, pop out 4 knockouts on all 4 sides. Put the light back up and pencil a mark at these 4 spots. Take the light down and drill with a 1/4 inch bit through the wall. This is where your toggle bolts will go through the light into the wall and screw down tightening the light to the wall. Fit the toggle bolts into the light screw side facing inward and working from one corner to the next push the toggle bolts into the wall tightening each one as you go along. Once the light is tight against the wall complete the wire make up, black to black, white to white, green to green and put any covers back on the light. Insert your light bulbs and turn on your breaker flip the switch and you have a new Bathroom vanity light. Best of luck! Dave
