Decorating A Bedroom With Photos

Fancy picture frames can enhance your decorating theme.

Despite the growing popularity of digital video cameras, it is unlikely that photos will ever be completely replaced. These captured memories allow you to surround yourself with important people and places from your past, and photos can become the decorative backdrop for a bedroom that features nostalgia. Armed with just a digital camera and a printer, you can make any size photo you need for this cozy room.

Instructions

1. Select a wall color that complements your decor choice for your bedroom. For this type of project, one wall of solid color works well to create a focal point in the room. Chinese red, cobalt blue, bright pink or Kelly green make excellent choices.

2. Painted film strips on the walls add visual interest and reinforce the theme.

Paint your room. Paint one wall with your color choice and paint the other four with off-white or white. For variety, paint a couple of strips of film going across the wall you've painted a different color. Allow the paint to dry. The images of the film on the wall will reinforce the photo theme of the room.

3. Consider converting the photos that you’re going to hang on the wall into black and white. They’ll stand out more on your colored wall.

4. Purchase a variety of photo frames. You want both free-standing and wall frames. Select frames that complement your color and decorating scheme.

5. Purchase photo stands. These folding screen-type stands allow you to show off your photographs. If you place a stand in the corner of the room and add decorative items like vases of dried flowers, baskets or even free-standing framed photos of different heights, your display will look more pulled together. These elements will also help it fit with the other decorative elements you have in the room.

6. Paint a mural of your favorite photo onto a free-standing dressing screen if you possess artistic talent. You can use this item to separate a dressing table or closet from the rest of the room.

7. Make a photo memory quilt featuring your favorite photos. If you’ve decided on black and white photos for your photo wall, consider making a quilt with black and white photos and a border that matches your wall color.

8. Dress up a large bookshelf with your photos and other decorative arrangements. Buy photo bookends for your books. Place a group of books together between the bookends and leave some space between the sets of book ends. Add pretty candle arrangements and other knickknacks between the groups.

9. Decorate your room with photo-related accessories if you’re a photo buff. For example, look for a variety of antique cameras and tripods. You can place these on your bookshelves or add it to your photo screen display.
