1. The first step is to ask your teenage son as what kind of a décor does he want in his room.That can range from sports to rock star to no particular theme. Let him decide the theme. Make sure that you help all along so that he can make a reasonable decision.
2. For a sports theme scout through all the garage sales and yard sales and get a lot of sports equipment and anything remotely connected with sports to add to the décor.
3. For walls paint a neutral color. The neutral color helps in two ways and that is that it will help accentuate the added accessories as well as it will help you recreate the room in some other way later. Use the roller to paint the room. This is simple and easy to do. Just put the paint in a tray and dip the roller in it. Use the roller to paint the wall and then let the paint dry.
4. Use the empty walls to hang all the sports equipment or for that matter any other equipment that you need to get that particular theme. For the rock band theme use a lot of guitars or instruments. Hang them on the wall. The best way to decorate the wall is to create a collage using the newspaper cut outs or get the special themed wallpaper. With the advent of internet you can use the pictures downloaded from internet.
5. For boys get the bedroom furniture which is all theme based. There are a lot of shops which sell the themed dressers or the car shaped beds or even the sports lockers style drawers. Boston red Sox style furniture or any other MLB team furniture is easily available.
6. Get the bed which includes the bunk beds with storage. This is a must as need things to store. The bedroom furniture should be sturdy as the boys will jump on it and also have some fun. Another option is the loft beds with a desk. These help to save on space in the room.
7. Now start putting all accessories into the room. Use the sports memorabilia and cut out to act as lamps. Get other accessories based on the theme. Allow the boys to have their say in decorating the room.
