Choose A Paint Color For A Dining Room

Painting your dining room walls a different color is a great way to create a whole new look in your home. With so many choices available, settling on a new paint color can be an overwhelming decision to have to make. Here are some major factors you should weigh before settling on a color.

Instructions

1. Consider the size of your dining room. If it is relatively small, you will want to avoid painting the walls a dark color, because it will make the room look even smaller.

2. Know your taste. Bright, vibrant colors may seem like a lot of fun, but they will not be the right choice for you if you desire a formal-looking dining room. Neutral colors like ivory and beige tend to lend themselves to a more formal feel.

3. Consider your furniture and current window accents and wall decorations. If you intend to keep the same décor, you will want a paint color that complements it. Obviously, if you are open to change or have not yet decorated your dining room, you have more options.

4. Look at the rooms around your dining room. If it connects with other rooms, you will want to make sure you do not choose clashing paint colors. You may love the colors red and green, but painting connected rooms in those colors will make it look like Christmas all year long.

5. Ask your painter (or the store employee from whom you purchase the paint) about undertones in the colors you are considering. Though it's not always obvious to the untrained eye, neutral paint colors can have a variety of undertones. You could get a look you were not expecting if were to choose an off-white paint with blue undertones and you dislike the color blue.

6. Dress up the room even more by painting an accent wall or using alternating colors to paint stripes on the walls. You may also choose to add a chair rail and paint one color on the bottom and another on the top, as long as the colors complement each other.
