Teenage Bedroom Ideas Using Purple

Your teen may enjoy a purple bedroom.

Nothing is more personal, inspiring or important to a teen than her bedroom. A teen's room is a safe haven, where she can relax throughout the day and where she won't be stressed. If your teen loves the color purple, incorporate this into her bedroom. Purple is an incredibly versatile color and the right shade can spice up not only your teen's room, but perhaps her attitude as well.

Walls

If you don't feel like wallpapering your teen's room, consider painting the walls purple and adding a festive border. A wall border is relatively inexpensive and easy to apply yourself, so your teen's room has a personalized, sophisticated touch without the expense of full wallpapering. For even more variety, paint the bottom half of the room purple and the top half white. Place the wall border in the center of the wall where the paint meets to hide the divide but add even more diversity to the walls. You can also incorporate purple wall stickers, available at home and garden stores, to the walls if you'd prefer not to paint.

Flooring

An area rug adds extra color.

While you likely won't want to install purple floors in your teen's room, you can give even a well-loved carpet a bit of a jump with purple area rugs. Choose a large rug for hardwood floors or for small bedrooms. Larger rooms can house several small purple rugs that match the rest of the room's decor perfectly. Place a small rug by the entrance to the room, next to the bed and even in front of the dresser to add more purple to your teen's room.

Bedding

Let your teen pick out bedding that he likes in purple. While many parents consider purple to be a feminine color, you can find masculine bedding in shades of purple. For example, pick out a sports team-themed bedding set in purple or dark purple striped sheets. If your teen wants a mythical appearance in her room, select purple curtains to hang over her bed.

Decor

The decor you select can alter your teen's bedroom theme from "mystical" to "playful." For an older teen, choose posters or pictures to hang on the wall. A younger teen might enjoy purple floating bookshelves to house miniatures or figurines. Don't forget the ceiling, which you can paint into a purple night sky or a thin swirly circle. Purple is often considered a peaceful, welcoming color, so enhance this calmness even more with a few incense warmers or candles.
