1. Spend some time figuring out what appeals to you. Look on the Internet or in magazines to get a feel for what colors best suit you. Magenta and lime may be the hottest colors of the moment, but if you cannot stand those colors, pick a color that is more to your taste. You are the one who is going to be spending the most time in this room, so you want colors that you find attractive, not off-putting.
2. Take a trip to your local paint store or paint section. Pick the swatches of the colors that are the closest matches to the colors you liked in pictures.
3. Tape up the paint swatches to your bedroom walls. If you look at the swatches during various times of the day, you will begin to get an idea of how the color will impact your room. If your room is small and without much natural light, dark colors may make it look like a cave. Bright colors, in small doses, give the room vibrancy. Four tangerine walls may not create an ambiance conducive to resting. The colors you pick for your walls, furniture and accessories will create a certain mood. Decide what kind of mood you want to create, and colors accordingly.
