Yellows and reds can sometimes remind people of the neighborhood hot-dog stand, but when the shades are warmed and muted, they work well together to create a visually exciting bedroom space. Contemporary and bold while charming and cozy at the same time, a yellow and red room will delight the senses with a striking color palette.
Instructions
1. Paint the walls in a shade of pale yellow. A pale yellow will complement your red elements without falling into the "ketchup and mustard" look. Use an eggshell finish to create a warm surface for natural light to reflect upon.
2. Get a sleek and simple black wood bed frame, side table and dresser. Black furniture is classic and sets off the warm yellows and reds that you'll use throughout the space.
3. Use the palest yellow sheets you can find and then cover the bed with a either a solid red comforter in a warm shade or a red comforter with yellow accents such as stripes or a floral motif.
4. Place a shag area rug across the floor at the foot of the bed. Find a rug in a shade of yellow that matches the walls, as this
5. Use a layering technique to place red and yellow accents around the room. For example, use a bedside lamp with a red base and then set a few yellow picture frames next to and in front of the lamp.
6. Choose wall art that has both the wall and the bedding colors in it, and mix in some black accents. For example, hang a painting with shades of red and yellow, large red wooden letters and vintage black wrought-iron fence pieces on the walls. By incorporating your color elements with some black pieces, you will bring the decor of the room together.
7. Place a yellow-framed or black wood-framed mirror across from the window in the room, if possible, or over the dresser. This will enhance the natural light in the room while introducing another design element.
