Bedroom Chair Railing Ideas

Bedroom chair railings can add a distinguished look your bedroom. The contrasting color and texture can really grab the eye upon entering the room. The chair railing can let you divide the walls allowing each half to accentuate the other. It is easy to do and an inexpensive way of adding dimension into your bedroom.

Molding as a Chair Railing

A traditional chair railing is typically one-third the way up a wall, up from the floor. A piece of molding can serve as a reproduction to a true chair railing. You can purchase molding in many widths and designs. You can do a plain chair railing that is a solid piece of molding about 2 inches wide to go around the perimeter of your bedroom. It should be painted a color to contrast the walls. Paint the molding before putting it up to make for a much neater and easier job.

You can do more with a chair railing in your bedroom other than using it to divide the wall in half. Create boxes of the molding on the bottom half of the wall to imitate the look of an ornate panel from the Victorian age. Make squares that measure 2-by-2 feet all along the bottom of the wall, framed out with the molding. They should be equally spaced apart and be 6 to 8 inches below the chair railing. Paint them the same color of the chair railing to bring a unity to the design.

Paint a pinstripe on the bottom half of the wall with the molding. After constructing your chair railing, run pieces of molding from the floor to the chair railing. Place these molding pieces at equal distances from each other. The space allotted will be your decision. When it is closer together, the design will be more detailed and labor intensive. A foot apart normally does the trick of giving the wall a rich, embellished look.

Non-Traditional Chair Moldings

A chair railing in the bedroom can be made from other things besides molding. Use a heavy duty rope around the perimeter of the room at the chair railing height for a nautical look. Try the type of rope used to tie the big boats to the dock.

Lattice work painted a contrasting color can run one third up your wall for a designer chair railing effect.

Wallpaper border can be used to give the effect of chair railing in your bedroom. You can get a border that complements your décor.

Cover a piece of lumber with fabric and hang this at chair railing height to give your room a touch of glamour. This would give the chair railing a chunky, but elegant feeling.
