Escape into your new bedroom
Free is always a nice word when thinking about decorating or making over a room. It just takes some creativity and a little time to have your bedroom looking like it stepped off the pages of a decorating magazine. Don't be afraid to experiment and try new ideas.
First Things First...
Get rid of all clutter. That includes just about everything on your bureau, nightstand and book shelves. A room that is free of clutter and clean looks much larger and more relaxing. If you must have things where you can easily get to them, consider covering shoe boxes with wallpaper, fabric or scrapbook paper and stacking them.
Vacuum and dust the entire room and wash the windows.
Getting Creative
In the summer months, nothing looks cooler than a bed covered in light-colored sheets. Use one as a bed coverlet, and use colorful pillowcases to bring color into the room. If you have a bed skirt, consider removing it or using a colored sheet as the bed skirt, tying the colors in from the pillows.
Rearranging the furnishings is another way to freshen up a room and make it feel like new. Rearrange the pictures or art on the wall, completely remove them or paint the frames a new color.
Try something different with the windows, such as using plain white sheets, or install a valance for a change of pace.
If you have some leftover paint, try using it on some furniture.
Attic and Garage Finds
Most of us store trinkets, pictures, vases, small tables and stools, chairs and "stuff" that we once got tired of and stored away. Go through those items with a fresh and creative eye and see if some paint could make something useful or attractive for your new bedroom. A small chair could become a new nightstand, or an old throw may be just the color you're looking to bring out in the room.
Mirrors are always good to enlarge a room. If you're lucky enough to have a large one packed away, bring it back into the room.
