Set Up Electricity In A One Bedroom Apartment

Moving into a new one-bedroom apartment requires a bit of work to set everything up for the residence. One of the first things you want to do is have your utilities, such as your electricity, water and gas set up. Ideally, you'll contact the utility company to do this about a week before your move-in date. The apartment's landlord may also agree to leave the electricity on for the first few days you move in, in case you need time to get it connected.

Instructions

1. Ask your landlord or your neighbors who your electricity provider is. Most areas are only served by one utility company.

2. Call the utility company prior to moving into the one-bedroom apartment. You can find the company's telephone number on their website or in your local telephone directory.

3. Speak with a customer service representative about opening a new account to establish electricity in the apartment. If you already have service at your old location, inquire about transferring the service.

4. Give the representative your personal information and the one-bedroom apartment's address. Set a date for turning the service on.

5. Inquire about any deposit necessary on the electricity account. Some providers may require you to put up a security deposit prior to turning the service on. You may be able to pay for this over the phone with a debit or credit card, or with a checking account. If this isn't an option, you may need to visit the utility company's customer service location to pay the deposit. Additionally, the provider may be able to add the deposit to your first month's bill.
