Create More Space In Your Bedroom

A bookshelf provides storage.

Lots of hidden spaces exist in your bedroom, areas you never actually think of using for storage or display. You can create more space in your bedroom if you open up your eyes and look at your room in a different manner. Rather than only think of your bedroom space as the space you can see on the floor, look up toward the ceiling, on the four walls, underneath the bed and over the doors and windows, as these spaces are available for your use if you want them.

Instructions

1. Go vertical. Use your four walls for storage solutions as you mount a desk, some night shelves or make a vanity area on the wall. Replace a short, wide dresser with a tall, thin one. Mount your television to the wall.

2. Combine aesthetics with function. Hang a collection of purses or hats on the wall that can double as art. Place an antique quilt on a wrought-iron rod on the wall and let it become your headboard.

3. Add risers to the bed to provide additional space beneath. Place seasonal items, such as sweaters, winter coats or blankets in rolling drawers under the bed. Box items you want to keep, such as old photo albums, and store them beneath the bed.

4. Organize your closet. Remove clothes that no longer fit or you don't wear. Add shelves to the closet for sweat suits, shoes and sweaters. Install a second rod for shirts or slacks.

5. Build shelves over doors and windows. Fill the shelves with colorful boxes that contain smaller items you want to have accessible but don't need on a daily basis. Add tall, thin bookshelves by the sides of the windows, if they will fit, to hold books, collections and school supplies.
