As a business owner or a careful homeowner, you will want to very carefully attend to the cleanliness of your restrooms. Deep cleanings improve health and safety and make a pleasant environment for your guests to answer nature's call. Following a few simple steps, you can perform professional-grade deep-cleaning services on your own.
Toilets
Use a powerful sanitizer like bleach around the toilet and inside the bowl, using a stiff-bristled brush to thoroughly scrub the inside of the bowl. Be sure to wipe down the tank and handles, as these can host harmful bacteria. Don't forget to to wipe down the front of the bowl down to floor level. Mix bleach at a 1:10 ratio of bleach to water, or use a commercial-grade disinfectant.
Sinks
Disinfect sinks the same was as toilets, making sure to thoroughly clean the handles and faucet. Run some clean water in the sink after disinfection to remove any lingering chemical smell. Be careful about mixing chemicals if there are significant soap messes around the sink---some cleaners will react chemically, leaving noxious fumes.
Supplies and Accessories
Disinfect the exterior surfaces of product dispensers (e.g., for single-serve pain relievers, condoms or feminine hygiene products). Refill all consumables dispensers, making sure there is adequate tissue paper to last to the next scheduled cleaning. If you use cloth towels, replace them and put the towels through the laundry.
Floors
Mop the floors with appropriate floor cleaners, including (optionally) bleach. If there is significant urine spill on the floors, be aware that bleach will react to the ammonia in urine to produce harmful, irritating fumes. When mopping, make sure to get around and behind the toilets and under the sinks. Use cleaners that will not leave a film that could contribute to a slip-and-fall accident.
Windows
Clean the film off of windows, disinfecting if possible. Clean handles and ledges as well. Use glass cleaners after disinfecting to reduce streaking.
