Replace Bathroom Vanity Tops

Replacing an outdated vanity can give your bathroom a whole new look.

A whole new look can be created by replacing a vanity top in the bathroom. It is not a very hard job, and can be done in under an hour. A new vanity top is an inexpensive and fast way to upgrade an outdated bathroom space.

Instructions

1. Turn off the water to the sink; you may have to turn off the hot and cold water separately. Disconnect the water lines underneath the vanity. You should now be able to remove the faucet from the top of the vanity. If the faucet is still firmly connected, cut any caulk on top and check for screws on the bottom.

2. Cut any caulking. There is always caulking or a sealing tape at the back of the vanity top and any sides that touch the wall. There is often caulk under the top where it meets the cabinet part of the vanity. Be sure to cut all the way through so the top is loose.

3. Unscrew the drain pipe below the sink. Have a bucket handy to put the pipe into once it has been disconnected. There may be water in the "S" part of the plumbing.

4. Unscrew any screws or brackets that may be holding the top to the wall. Get under the top, inside the vanity, and look for them. Carefully lift the top off the vanity and set it off to the side.

5. Check the vanity for any chips or gouges. Make sure the wood has no swollen areas from water damage. Repair any wood damage before putting on the new top.

6. Carefully reverse the steps, placing the new top onto the cabinet. Make sure the new top is seated right before putting in any screws or caulking. It may help to have someone hold the top in place while you are screwing it to the wall. Use screws that are slightly larger than the previous ones if you are going to use the same holes.

7. Wait for the caulk to dry. Once the caulk has dried, be sure to check all water and drain connections. Keep the bucket under the sink to prevent water damage, just in case, until you have thoroughly checked it all.The vanity top can change the entire feel of the bathroom, once you change it you may end up redoing the whole theme.
