You can make over small bedrooms without much effort.
Small bedrooms often seem impossible to decorate and furnish. Having no closet certainly does not help with this. A lack of this important bedroom feature leaves a room feeling less than organized. A makeover will allow you to change things up in a small room so that the area does not seem so cramped and confining. This makeover will not have to cost much, and you can use items that you already have on hand when possible.
Instructions
1. Build or purchase an armoire if you need to hang clothing. Use this freestanding type of closet to hang clothes that you do not want to wrinkle. Install drawers, or purchase an armoire with drawers, to negate the need for a dresser and to save space within the room.
2. Clean furniture and other items before taking them out of the room so that you will not have to clean before bringing everything back in. Remove everything from the room. Wash the walls, windows and floors once you've removed all items. Wipe down the switch plates and sweep the ceiling. Remove the light fixture and wash it out.
3. Bring only the necessary furniture back into the room. Set the bed in place first. Be sure that it does not block access to the door and that its placement will not impede your ability to walk through the room easily.
Do not replace the dresser if the armoire has drawers. Place a night table with drawers or cupboards on of the bed, as they will provide needed storage for the room. Put a chair near the window for reading.
4. Place a shelving unit in the room to use for storing books or displaying photographs and other memorabilia. Locate this where it will not be in the way. Use storage units under the bed for storing out of season clothing and bedding. Store hobby items in the cupboards or drawers in the bedside tables.
5. Purchase new bedding and window treatments that coordinate with the colors in the room. Place decorative pillows on the bed, and drape a throw blanket on over the back of the chair. Bring in area rugs that match and a lamp for each bedside table. Hang some wall decorations, such as sconces on either side of a painting, and place a few candles around the room.
