Bohemian chic is a term used to describe an unconventional and eclectic décor that's at once grandiose yet somewhat shabby, an offbeat, colorful, unmatched and richly textured style of decorating reminiscent of a rambling gypsy caravan. In Bohemian chic bedrooms, you're apt to find an unstructured collection of items that are vintage or slightly battered, worn and comfortable, casually flowing and vibrantly colored. Beads, fringe and bangles may dangle from windows and painted ceilings while gauzy, flowing fabrics grace beds, dressers and lounging chaises.
Instructions
1. Choose your furniture from antique shops, garage sales, thrift stores, flea markets and auctions. Make a canopy for a vintage four-poster bed with a pair of showy, purple, long-fringed window curtains tied to the bedposts with scarlet satin ribbons. Layer the bed with antique quilts and old fringed embroidered piano covers.
2. Paint your walls a dramatic black or purple or a deep red or sapphire blue. Choose gemstone colors to accent trim, ceiling and floors. Wallpaper your ceiling in a vintage Victorian Paris design.
3. Set up a bright pink-painted wicker chair with a sapphire velvet seat cushion and a sea-green wooden vanity table. Hang glittery beaded curtains and wind chimes from your windows
4. Accent your bedroom with an antique plush chaise lounge and a lacquered Japanese privacy screen. Frame vintage carnival and theater posters in old frames painted in bright colors and hang them around your bedroom.
5. Choose old floor lamps, or floor lamps topped with old fringed-glass, beaded or fabric lamp shades. Prop a collection of feathered and glitzy Mardi Gras masks on a red- or purple-painted shelf.
